EGS Sliding Glass Door Now Approved for -160 & -180 Design Pressures
We’re proud to announce that EGS International, LLC has officially received approval from the State of Florida for its newly engineered impact-resistant sliding glass door systems. Certified for design pressures of +130/-160 and +130/-180, these products now stand among the highest-performing solutions on the market for hurricane-prone and high-wind coastal construction. This certification not only strengthens our position as an industry leader, but also provides developers, engineers, and contractors with the assurance that our systems exceed code requirements and deliver unmatched performance in real-world storm conditions.
1. Design Pressure Testing
Our new sliding glass doors were tested and approved under rigorous pressure simulations. The SMI (Small Missile Impact) model achieved certification at +130/-180, while the LMI (Large Missile Impact) version was certified at +130/-160. These numbers indicate the maximum wind loads the doors can withstand, both when wind pushes toward the structure (positive pressure) and pulls away (negative pressure).
To verify structural reliability, the doors were also subjected to a structural load test at 1.5 times the design pressure. After four lab attempts, our LMI sliding glass door withstood up to -270 pressure, confirming its resilience far beyond standard requirements.
2. Large Missile Impact (LMI) Testing
To simulate real hurricane conditions, wooden projectiles were launched at the door systems, replicating windborne debris during a storm. Following impact, the doors underwent cyclic pressure testing. Pressure was applied inward and outward repeatedly, gradually reaching -160 or -180, depending on the model. This test ensures that our systems can maintain integrity even after being struck by flying debris and subjected to ongoing storm forces.
3. Test Footage: Fixed Window & Sliding Door
These videos document our sliding door glass and fixed windows glass enduring high-speed impacts and continuing to resist structural failure. The footage highlights the durability of our complete system: glass and frames components working together under pressure.
4. Hurricane Pressure
In these clips, our impacted doors withstand simulated hurricane pressure. Even after the glass has already being impacted it holds, demonstrating its strength and reliability during the most critical post-impact stage of a storm.
These new approved product designs demonstrate that our products are engineered for resilience and safety, in order to safeguard buildings against hurricane-force winds, flying debris, and severe pressure fluctuations. This level of performance is especially vital for coastal commercial developments, high-rise buildings, and storm-vulnerable areas.
